Welcome Board
Take pictures of each child the first week of school. Mount on construction paper and add child's name. Display pictures around a schoolhouse.

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall
Teacher selects a child to be a partner. Tells class the partner must pretend they are looking into a mirror and do exactly what the teacher does. Use a variety of arm and leg movements. Have children partner up!

Learn My Way Around
Children are given hints to an object in the room that the teacher is thinking of. Helps children familiarize themselves with their new surroundings.

Thing We Like To Do
Make a chart with a list of all the children's names. Children can cut out pictures from magazines of things they like to do (toys, games, activities), and paste them under their name on chart. Let each child tell about their pictures.

First Day Of School Activities
Show pictures and tell stories that relate to school and home. i.e. Mother, Father, Brother or Sister. Have each child tell one interesting thing they saw on the way to school. Let each child tell what they like best in the classroom.

One, Two, Three Song
One, Two ,Three, One, Two ,Three, How many children make One, Two ,Three,? _____ and______and makes three. Please come and stand in front of me. (fill in blanks with children's names).

The Growing Tree
Draw a large tree, and use it to measure and mark the height of the children in class the first few weeks of school. Redo this activity at the end of the year. The children love to see how much they have grown :)

Friendship Chair
Getting to know classmates names are important. Place a chair in the middle of the circle. Say "I close my eyes while someone goes to the friendship chair on little tiptoes"..(Teacher taps a child and that child goes to the Friendship Chair). "Now open your eyes both brown and blue. Tell me friend, who are you?" Child states name and all children repeat it.
