Resurrection Cross
Each child will need a cross made out of Popsicle sticks (teacher should hot glue), half of a 2 inch
Styrofoam ball (painted green the day before by child),
assorted flower stickers, brown marker, and a 1 inch by 6 inch purple cloth.
Have children color both sides of the cross brown. Then add flower stickers to the base (Styrofoam ball). Teacher will need
to push the cross into the base and hot glue the purple cloth on after it had been draped over the cross. Now explain to the
children how the cross was a sad plain place. The ground was dirt
and the cross was ugly, but after Jesus rose the cross was beautiful with grass and flowers and the purple cloth representing Jesus robe.
Egg Carton Cross
Take a 1 dozen egg carton and cut into (2) 6 cup sections. Cut one of the
cups off the 6 cup sections. Round the corners on all four ends. Have children paint both of the sections. Now place the 5 cup section
onto the 6 cup section to make a cross. Let dry and add glue if needed. Teacher can hot glue ribbon and flowers of the child choice on
the cross. These are beautiful and parents love them as well as the children.
Resurrection Eggs
Each child will need to supply 1 dozen plastic eggs, 1 egg carton, and 3 dimes. Teacher should make a set in advance and use all week to insure that the children remember the story and can retell to others.
A wonderful book to help tell the story of Jesus is (available at any Christian supply store) Benjamin's Box.
I have given just a brief example of each items meaning. Add more or less information when opening the eggs according to how old your children are and how long they can sit and listen.
Other supplies needed (1 per child) for this project.
Leaf-represents the palm branches Jesus followers waived when Jesus rode into Jerusalem.
Cracker-represents the last supper when Jesus told the disciples to eat the bread in remembrance of him.
Praying Hands Picture -represents Jesus praying in the garden to his father.
Dimes-represents Judas betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
Rope-represents the arrest of Jesus.
Twig-represents the crown of thorns put on Jesus head. (I found thorn bushes to be to dangerous for children).
Leather Strip-represents the whip the roman soldiers used to beat Jesus with. (A leather shoe lace cut in pieces works nicely).
Nail-represents the nails the roman soldiers pounded into Jesus hands to hang him on the cross. (Be careful to get blunt end nails).
Dice-represents the roman solders gambling for Jesus clothes.
Gauze-represents the white cloth used to wrap bodies in for burial.
Rock-represents the rock that was rolled in front of the tomb where they laid Jesus body.
Empty Egg-represents the tomb where Jesus rose from the dead.
